Kuala Lumpur, 20 November 2025 — Italian shipbuilder and defence group Fincantieri S.p.A., working with local partner ENRA Energy Solutions Sdn Bhd, held a defence technology seminar aimed at expanding maritime cooperation with the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and the Ministry of Defence Malaysia.
The seminar was a continuity initiative following the signing of the Technical Collaboration Agreement between Fincantieri and ENRA Energy Solutions during LIMA 2025 in 21st May 2025 at Langkawi. It brought together key representatives from both companies to discuss technical developments, knowledge sharing, and future joint initiatives, reinforcing their commitment to advancing collaboration in the maritime and energy sectors.
Presentations focused on naval platforms and systems relevant to Malaysia’s current and future capability requirements. These included concepts for Multi-Role Support Ships (MRSS), Littoral Mission Ship (LMS) Batch 3, Electronic Warfare (EW) systems, radar and sensor technologies, underwater surveillance solutions, and integrated training and simulation systems developed by CETENA, a Fincantieri subsidiary.
The event also provided a forum for direct engagement between Fincantieri technical specialists and senior RMN officers, with discussions covering operational requirements, technology transfer, and potential industrial cooperation.
Participants included representatives from the Italian defence industry and diplomatic community, alongside senior RMN officers responsible for strategic planning, materiel, cyber and electromagnetic domains, and naval engineering. Officials from Malaysia’s Ministry of Defence involved in policy and naval procurement were also present.
According to feedback from attendees, the RMN showed interest in several areas, particularly Electronic Warfare, radar and sensor systems, integrated training and simulation, MRSS development, and underwater and subsurface technologies. The navy also indicated interest in visiting Fincantieri facilities to conduct further technical and operational assessments.
The seminar underscores continued efforts to deepen Italy–Malaysia defence cooperation and support Malaysia’s naval modernisation objectives through international industry partnerships.
